Blaze isn't tracking heart rate and steps, calories burned accurately.

i'm wondering if this is a common problem with the blaze?

 

i only bought it a few days ago and i'm still trying to find what's comfortable for me, but today was my day off so all i've done today since i woke up at 6am is watch movies on my couch.

 

when i woke up the tracker already claimed i had 80 steps in. right now, before the days over i'm at over 2000 and i know for sure that the rare  times i got up for food or the washroom wasn't any where near 2000 steps.

 

the only thing it's accurately tracked is the 4 times i went up or down my staircase that only has 15 steps on it

The steps might seem high because your Blaze is not actually tracking physical steps, but the continuous swinging of your arm. So naturally it will exaggerate steps more than for example a hip based pedometer.

Most pedometers require you to take a set amount of steps before they start counting, but they also count those 'first steps' when you keep moving. (My Blaze usually starts after around 6, I think. Sometimes it's more.)

 

I have previously had a lot of completely sedentary days, where all I would do was hang out in my relatively small apartment, mostly on the computer or in front of the tv, but the normal was to have around 2000 steps in a day.

If you want to see when in your day you racked up steps, you can go to your activity log and hover over the bars in the chart. Each bar represents a 5 minutes.

 

Could you maybe say something about why you think your calorie and heart rate tracking is off?

 

ETA: If you want to check your calorie count, you can calculate your basal metabolic rate (BMR - what you burn simply by being alive) with this calculator.

To get your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE), your BMR is multiplied by these common activity factors:

Sedentary: 1.2

Lightly active: 1.375

Moderately active: 1.55

Very active: 1.725

Extremely active: 1.9

Since none of us are the same and metabolic rate can be very different between individuals, it's not a perfect science, but it's a very good guess and an excellent starting point in any case.

Heart rate trackers can also tend overestimate the calories burned by a little bit, while non heart rate trackers can go the opposite way.

does that somehow count the "steps" i took while driving to work?

 

i somehow managed to sprint my way to 800 steps this morning after i got to work.

another 1000 on the way home from work

 

my tracking is off because i purposefully did things to get my heart rate up today and it was stuck under 80BPM. meanwhile i did a manual check (beats in 15 seconds x 4) and went way higher than what it was tracking

I've heard about people getting steps from driving, but I've never experienced it myself.

If you want to "remove" those steps, you can manually input the time you spent driving and log it as 'driving'. It will negate your steps taken during the time you put in.

 

I can't say much on the HR tracking and why it's behaving that way. I've been experiencing similar issues a few times this last week and a half, but only when hiking. It seems it might be a bug or something, cause there are a lot of posts about it at the moment.

 

One thing to keep in mind is that Fitbit doesn't give you the HR immediately but takes a few seconds to notice and give you the correct HR. Things like HIIT exercises for instance might not register as well as steady cardido because your pulse will change more and much quicker.
