Blaze not counting all my steps

Anyone else having issues regarding their Blaze not counting/acknowledging all their steps?
I can walk for 2 minutes without my Fitbit registering any steps then suddenly it kicks into life.
I wear it on my non dominant wrist and even tried swinging my arms to create sufficient motion but to no avail.
Compared to a work colleague who has a HR I'm over 2K steps down on him even though we cover the same distance.
I've tried restarting my Blaze but that hasn't cured my steps problem.
Not sure if I need to get it replaced.
Thanks

@2brunningfree I've returned my tracker stating that it doesn't do what it promises basically i.e. It can't count steps accurately and received a full refund for the blaze but still waiting for a refund of the £12 postage that they said will take 3-5 weeks!!!

Did you ever resolve your issue with the inaccurate step counting? This is the most recent post I could find concerning this issue.

I have switched from the Charge HR to the Blaze just a few days ago and my steps taken are much lower than usual. I have the most updated version so I'm wondering if I need to take further action. I tested it this evening and walked about 300 steps. My Blaze picked up a little more than half of them. My Charge HR had a slew of defects concerning design and issues falling apart, but it always counted my steps. I don't think I should have to swing my arms too much to get an accurate step count. I never had to do this with my Charge. Any suggestions would be appreciated 🙂

Nope never managed to get it sorted and now having issues with my battery life. If you're still in warranty I'd ask for a refund or exchange.

I'm now stuck with a 15 month old hit and miss step counter with a battery that lasts about 48hrs.

hope you get sorted 👍🏻

I turned off the hourly move notification and the quick view. That helped with the counting accuracy. My problems started when the tracker was updated to give hourly move notifications.

@MichelleSt Unfortunately, only Fitbit can fix it, because it's a bug. Also unfortunately, Fitbit isn't interested in fixing bugs. I've found it's more accurate if you swing your arms less, for what that's worth.

Thanks for getting back so fast. I guess I will contact them about it.

I have tried that but it didn't seem to affect the accuracy at all. I have also restarted it, turned off quick view, turned off auto-recognize workouts, and switched from non-dominant to dominant. None of it helped at all 😞 I ended up contacting customer support as I have only had the Blaze for a few days. They are sending me another, so I am hoping this one will be free of issues. Thanks for your help.

I had a similar problem when I turned on all-day sync. I went from around 10k steps day to 2.5k! It was missing huge chunks of data. Turned off the all-day sync and now I'm back to normal.

I suspect whenever I moved out of range of my phone (I'd left it in one place) it would stop recording the data.

I’ve given up now. The lack of support from Fitbit is shocking. Once my blaze dies I’ll be moving on to a more reliable fitness tracker

Yeah, Fitbit nonsupport is becoming legendary. I hope they get a grip on it because the hardware seems to be pretty decent, but their SW and manuals were apparently written by a middle school IT shop class.

That being said, I was able to get some success with the step counting with this workaround: I would secure the "loose end," so to speak, of my Fitbit-wearing arm by sticking my fingers in my waistband or my thumb in my pocket, and the counting accuracy went from counting 100 steps as about 50 to counting 100 steps as 95-105. Also, if I were carrying something reasonably weighty, or even holding a to-go cup of coffee in my Fitbit hand, the accuracy went up. It's pretty sad that users have to come up with kludges to work around shortcomings in the device, but this one seems to take care of that particular problem for me.

I am now on my 3rd Blaze and have had the same problem with each of them only counting about 70% of my steps. I sent them a video and they acknowledged that it was not counting the steps. Their response...restart the Fitbit at least three times and try it again.

You can probably guess the outcome of that. Emailed the support team back on Saturday and have not received a response.

I would say your chart is almost spot on what I was tracking today. I just replaced my broken charge (WHich I loved) with this upgraded Blaze. I had no issues with my charge HR but today I got to thinking  how I wasn't really getting as many steps as I did last year at this time, so I ran my own experiment much like yours. It did not matter if I was swinging my arms, if I took 5 steps or 50 steps. Sometimes the steps counted and sometimes they didn't. At all. LIke I would take 50 steps and not a single one would be counted, but 10 minutes later 10 steps would count for 10 steps. I can't find a reason for it and I'm not amused. My Charge would only be off by a few steps and I'm ok with that. I think I'm losing upwards of 3k steps a day.

Yeah I’m not happy I had the earlier model the zip and the flex both worked great I’m a little upset as this cost me $367 😞 and although has all the added features the most important thing is to know how far you have gone an it sucks at it

I’ve had the same exact issue on two different fitbit trackers.

I actually started with a Charge HR last year which was great but then it started lagging and not counting everything.  Customer service sent me a new one which started out fine and then ended up doing the exact same thing. Their reps were absolutely unhelpful and eventually I decided to upgrade to a Blaze in June of this year - the lagging on the HR bothered me and the wrist band was doing a lot of damage to my skin. It was working perfectly until recently when, yet again, I’m in the same situation.  It’s definitely not logging all of my steps and short changing me quite a lot (for example, I step in place for the span of a 50 minute tv show and it only counted 20 minutes of steps from that period of activity.)

It’s incredibly aggravating and even when I try to input steps manually (which is constant), it doesn’t even add the full amount that I just typed in.  And on a superficial level, it also screws me out of earning badges when I have to input steps through the website which is a pain.

I’m very disappointed in this company and their products.

I am having this exact same problem - it's incredibly frustrating. I can walk for a few minutes before it kicks in and then it will only count like 10 steps. Then, today it stopped tracking my heart rate during a workout. I too have tried the restart multiple times, unpaired it from my phone and repaired it multiple times. This has been ongoing for at least a month 😕

been at it for hours now loll but look... if you got a message saying a message that "Do you want to make this your exercise location?" and clicked yes you may have locked the device permanently. I'm still working on it and realized  that there is nothing to do. as soon as i walk out of my house from when i accepted the message (I am not too positive on what the quoted message said but close enough) I can track steps regularly like 100 feet away or so. anyways i did multiple things like making a new account and everything. the funny thing is when its plugged in i can move it around and make steps tracked. fit bit was on the phone with me for an hour after 20 minutes before the first one she hung up. its a bug on older test models. mines a blaze but they are sending a replacement. let you know this was a second replacement from fit bit blaze shocking me occasionally. I am working on a solution but believe its bugged. I now suffered updated iPhone (ugh). I think I want to work for these guys (only from home) and assist everybody further. we apparently are the only people who suffer this. thanks for reply. I am giving up as there is no solution. please let me know if you got that location setting thing i mentioned
