Blaze not tracking my steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My blaze doesn't count all my steps. I notice when I have my phone on me it will track several hundred steps more than my fitbit will. But I don't carry my phone often which was why I bought a fitbit in in the first place.

I have also noticed that when I am pushing a stroller or shopping cart my steps aren't being counted at all. Hours of walking and nothing. Even when I am carrying my baby around. No steps.

I was walking laps around a track and walked three laps and noticed it only counted one lap (the distance was wrong).

It doesn't count flights of stairs I walk. I live in a two story house and walk up and down stairs many times a day and it will only track it once or twice.

I have gotten up when my hourly 250 steps reminder goes off. I will walk around the house for ten minutes and it will count maybe 20 steps. I've stopped responding to the reminders.

I have restarted my fitbit many times. Sometimes that helps but not often. location is enabled. I have changed the way I wear it on my wrist. I am seriously questioning why I spent all that money. Step counting was a huge point of buying this and it isn't even doing that. I even convinced family members to buy one too but they had to return theirs because it wasn't working. I thought I could figure mine out but I am starting to regret that. I could have bought a cheap plastic one and it could have managed better than this.

Has anyone has similar issues? Any NEW advice?

I am also having issues with inaccurate step tracking.  I am on my 3rd week of my new Blaze & I am terribly disappointed. My previous Fitbit devices showed that I hit 10,000 steps in between 4:00 & 4:30 every day that I did my morning walks. Not this device! I think I reached 10,000 steps 3 times in the last 3 weeks! Last night I had less than 100 steps to go & the tracker would't budge! I walked around my house counting 300 steps. Nothing registered on the Blaze. Additionally, there are times while I am walking that it shows my heart rate in the 180's! Not possible! I so totally miss my Alta!! Any help would be appreciated.

A warm welcome to the Community @xrsize1.

Thanks for your question about step counting. For tips about improving accuracy, take a look at the help article How accurate are Fitbit devices?.

Factors such as device placement, dominant or non-dominant hand, and stride length affect the number of steps recorded. If you're pushing a stroller or shopping cart, try putting your wrist-based device in your pocket or use GPS if possible. If it still seems like your device is undercounting or overcounting steps, do the following:

1. Put your device on your wrist..

2. Walk 100 steps, making sure to count a step each time one of your feet hits the ground.

3. Pause, then check your device to see your step count.

I hope this gets you back on track. Smiley Happy

Has there been any further work done to correct the step counting flaw?  Yesterday I paced off 100 steps, my iphone in my back pocket counted 100 steps but my Fitbit Blaze counted 64 steps .... something is seriously wrong if a device designed to count steps isn't nearly as accurate as an iphone in my pocket!

This issue MUST be addressed,  I see too many complaints about it for it to be ignored.

But how many steps where counted by you? The frount and back pocket are know to loose up to 15% of the steps with a waist mounted tracker. I have seen any accuracy tests with a phone app.

One thought would be to do a 200 or even a 500 step test, with coun in the head.

Most of my past step count issues send to be very consistent and losing a set amount of steps with every test.

IE:

100 steps gave me 85 on the Fitbit

200 steps gave me 185 on the Fitbit

500 steps gave me 465 on the Fitbit.

If I walked 20 steps and paused just long enough to hit start the counts where sit on.

The recent step test I have done with my Charge 3, Versa, Ionic, and Blaze have been within 3 steps. I count only the left step than double.

Have You tried a shutdown of the Blaze?

The Blaze was just not counting steps at all unless my arm was swinging pretty energetically. Since that is not how I walk, it was not accurately tracking. I now have a Fitbit Zip. I don't like it as much as I liked my One but I have double-checked it several times and it does give an accurate count no matter how I walk.

I ended up retuning my Blaze due to the very inaccurate step count. I now have a Fitbit Zip. It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles, and I don't like it as much as I did my One, but it is very accurate in step counting. I have done a manual count of my steps a number of times and it always matches up. I do wish they still had the One, however.

I counted 100 steps ... the iPhone counted 100 steps in the back pocket ... the blaze counted 64 steps.
