Blaze overcounting floors/stairs climbed

I got my Blaze a couple of days ago and it said i climbed 18 floors yesterday. I only did 4. Any ideas how to fix this?

There are lots of factors that influence the stairs stats. For instance, it operates by measuring atmospheric pressure changes, so on a windy day it is quite usual to find a lot of mythical stairs added to the total. Gradients of any kind are measured as stairs - so when I take my dog for a walk I can often record 18 flights of stairs just by going up a couple of gentle slopes.

Did you do anything different from normal yesterday?

The floors climbed feature is completely messed up.  For the last 2 days, Blaze only counted 40% of the flights I climbed.  Today, I've only climbed 1 flight of stairs but Blaze has me at 8 already.

A storm came thru yesterday, so now I have 114 floors for that day.  😄

Fitbit doesn't allow you to correct the number of floors you climbed, but there is a work-around.  Just log an activity as driving during the time you did not climb stairs and it will erase the floors it says you climbed.  It would be much easier if fitbit allowed us to delete the incorrect data and add the correct number.

@KW1 @Bear1018 Your Blaze should record floors when it detects the combination of:

1. Continuous motion.

2. A change in atmospheric pressure that is associated with an elevation gain of 10 feet.

Fitbit trackers will not registers floors when you descend stairs or elevation gains simulated from a StairMaster or treadmill since your body does not change elevation.

@Hilary55 makes a very good point. There are external factors, such as changes in atmospheric pressure, can sometimes influence floor counts.

My guess is that the storm that came through @adammiarka's town definitely changed the atmospheric pressure, resulting in an inflated floor count.

The fact is the Blaze incorrectly recorded flights climbed WHILE I was driving.  So, I was in constant motion (at least the car was) and the road is not straight and level, there are some small inclines.  Pretty easy way to get in "extra" exercise!  My Charge HR didn't record "phantom" flights climbed.

My blaze is recording floors when I use an elevator and am not using my wrist.

The stairs function is very inconsistent and unreliable at this point... definitely needs to be corrected. I've read that other people had no problems with previous devices. Why change something that worked so well before? And the fact that the altimeter and flight counting was given as a reason for not waterproofing the device is absolute bananas. But I digress...

I ran on the treadmill and it registered 82 floors. That's pretty ridiculous and I had no incline going on.

When these Phantom floors are recorded does it throw off all the other information such as calorie count and step count?
Best Answer
Include should make no difference at the stair sensor only uses atmospheric pressure only.

Personally I ignore the floors climbed number and have set my goal to 1. I work outside a lot and it seems on windy days my floors increase. I only really count steps and like I said I ignore the floors climbed. To me it's a useless number for my purposes.

Thanks, this is my very first Fitbit so I'm in the process of learning how it all works.

For the origanal question, Fotbit does not look at floors climbed when calculating calories.

Just switched from the flex to the blaze and now all my elevator use is being counted as floors climbed

I was assuming that it (for me, "it" is a Charge) counts stairs only if an altitude gain comes at the same time as walking steps. That would eliminate elevators and driving (but not outside work on windy days, and not if you hand-grind your coffee with your Fitbit arm while on an elevator or driving...Woman Happy)

True @SunsetRunner floors are only counted during steps, yes some cars have a stiff enough ride that it causes the tracker to count the bumps as steps, then it is also possible to get floors. I assume this is what also happens in the elavator.

LOL, I thought Fitbit wearers prefered stairs.

Absolutely I prefer stairs! I like the way Fitbit motivates me to use them even when I'm tired - my apt. is on the 5th floor.

I don't understand the significance of counting floors. They don't seem to impact any of the stats, other than the amount of floors climbed, which in my experience is highly inaccurate.

Today I took my dog for two walks with negligible elevation change. I also did a hike with a 722' elevation change. My total floors logged by the Blaze for the day so far is 71. This means nothing to me. Another issue I see is I cannot see the floors for an individual exercise, only the total for the day.

I take the floors climbed with a grain of salt.
