Blaze severely undercounting steps

I have noticed lately that my Blaze is severely undercounting steps. I am having a hard time even reaching my goals. Just did two tests of 100 steps and got credited for 78 the first time and 76 the second. This is super frustrating and makes it hard to compete in weekly challanges. Is there a fix for this and/or is anyone else experiencing the same issues. I have uninstalled/reinstalled and hard reset. No differences.

This is a known bug in the Blaze. I also had the same problem with my Charge HR after they started the automatic workout detection. Fitbit knows about the issue, but doesn't seem interested in fixing it.

I have found that the following things help:

1) Disable all of the automatic workouts. All my steps were being detected as elliptical for some reason and it was messing with my all day step count.

2) Try not swinging your arms so much. Yes, I know, that's dumb. People swing their arms when they walk and run, especially when doing so for fitness. But Blaze counts fewer steps the more you swing your arms. I started just keeping my Blaze hand on my body to get an accurate step count, then realized that I had inadvertently conditioned myself to just not swing my arms much.

You also may find it counts 90-95%, rather than 70-80% if you tell it that it's on your dominant hand, even if it isn't.

I have it on my dominate hand but set for non-dominate. Is that what you meant. Also I set all the workouts to ignore. Couldn't find a disable. I will try the non arm swinging however for $200 for an activity tracker I shouldn't have to consciously think about not not swinging arms or walking a certain way to ensure the product accurately does it's job 😕

If it's on your dominant hand, you should almost certainly set it for dominant. You must be left handed... Anyhow, ignore is correct. And obviously we shouldn't be expected to alter our behavior to please our  tech, but somehow we always end up doing so. It's supposedly actually better to not swing your arms so much, especially when running, as it wastes a lot of energy. Of course, I run to "waste" energy (i.e. make room for ice cream), so.

I also get the same 20 steps short with 100 steps, but:

  • With a 200 step test my Blaze is still only off by 20 steps
  • With a 500 step test my Blaze is off by 20 steps
  • It's the same with a 1000 step test
  • Now if I set the Blaze up to track, walk about 20 - 30 steps at my normal walking pace.. Pause long enough to start the tracking function, start counting my hundred.. The tracker is within 1 - 2 steps.
