Blaze showing sleep patterns instead of sleep stages

I have reported this issue before (and many people are having similar issues) regarding only getting basic sleep details from my Blaze.

Since mid March, I have only gotten basic sleep details.  Many others seem to have the same issue.  I have tried all of the fixes.  The one that seemed to work best was restarting the Blaze multiple times before bed.   But, that doesn’t seem to be working anymore.  I am increasingly frustrated with the product.

I have also noticed that the average sleep for a week is computed incorrectly.  I find it somewhat amusing that my average sleep can be over 8 hours in a week and yet I don’t have a single night over 8 hours (and only one over 7 hours) in that week.  Creative math.

Has anyone heard about how the various other smart watches are working out?  Does the Apple Watch have more statisfied customers?  Maybe one of the others?  What about the new ones from Fitbit?

Good to see you around @SwimRun! 🙂

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems with your sleep stages not showing again and that instead, you're just getting sleep patterns.

Now, I'd like to know if you've checked the sleep records to know why you've not received sleeps stages. This is a good indicator of what is going on. For more information on this, tap or click the sleep record that shows your sleep pattern.

Image of fitbit app explaining why sleep stages are not available.

Now, about the asleep hours average, you could try the following:

1. Restart your tracker. You can easily do this by pressing the left and lower right buttons for 10-12 seconds. This will make your tracker to reboot
2. Make sure that your tracker is snug on your wrist.  This means that the lights shouldn't be visible.
3. Try sleeping with the tracker on your non-dominant hand.

Try those suggestions out and let me know how it goes!

Hello,

I have gone and looked at the sleep record for the nights that I have gotten the basic sleep pattern.  In each case, it states that the tracker could not get a consistent heart rate reading while I was sleeping.

I sleep with the tracker on my non-dominant wrist.  I have tried having it snug, a little loose, and more loose.  No difference in what I obtain in the morning.

Have I restarted/rebooted the watch?  Yes.  I generally do so multiple times before I go to sleep.  I used to think this helped, but it has not done so over the past 10 nights.

I’m not sure why restarting the watch would help with the sleep average numbers as they are displayed on the phone.  Is the data for the averages stored on the phone or are is pulled from a centralized database each time it is displayed?  My phone has been restarted several times during the time in which the sleep average is incorrect.  I suspect that the sleep average is computed each time it is displayed due to it’s behavior while numbers are being loaded.  It would be interesting to know where the basic data is stored and whether it is accessed each time (I guess I could figure it out by trying to see what would happen if I turn off cellular data and WiFi while in the app, but I imagine other things would break).

Another user suggested that I change the watch’s sensitivity.  I will look into that.
