Hi,
@LM63 , with your Flex you may have been unaware of the steps you were getting from driving -- I certainly was until I switched to a tracker that gave me numbers on my wrist (Charge HR). There are basically 3 ways you can deal with this.
1. You can log "driving" as
@Rich_Laue has suggested (follow his link)
2. You can use your commute to charge your Fitbit via a car charger, as it won't count steps or stairs while it is plugged in
3. For iOS and Android users you can download a free app called DriveBit which works very easily and will automatically log driving for you.
The disadvantage of methods 1 and 3 is that they produce an exercise log which gives credit for exercise goals -- and if you are tracking how many times a week you workout, it throws off your logs (well, that's my view, anyway). My unofficial solution is to take off my tracker and tuck it into my bra, as it will not record steps from driving when worn on your core.
I hope this helps!
