Calories in vs Calories out deficit

When I set up my Fitbit profile , it asked me if I wanted to input my own calorie value or a pre-set one with a set caloric deficit. I put myself at 1200 calories.  I am not understanding why I’m constantly over budget. I’ve read a bunch of threads and I still do not understand. First off , I don’t know what my deficit is...   so far calories in 1091. Calories out are 2154 and it’s saying I’m over. Anyone able to explain in simple terms? Thanks in advance

Hi there @Abiz. Great to see you in the Community Forums! 🙂

When it comes to the calories in vs calories out, this is a combination of the food you eat and your daily activity. What this does is that it will give you a caloric deficit. Now, to answer your question on what your calorie deficit is, a calorie deficit occurs when you've burned more calories than you've consumed in a given day. To achieve a weight loss goal, you should aim for a calorie deficit.

You might be seeing that you're over your budget if you're logging more food than the calories you're burning from activity, so you will need to compensate the calories in, with exercise to overpass the calories you're consuming with calories you're burning.

Hope this makes sense, please let me know if you have more doubts.
