Cannot control music on a Nexus 5X after classic pair

Just got my Fitbit blaze! First time fitbit user and I am excited with all that the blaze can do and collect. 

 

But I am a bit disappointed by the music controls. After a lot of hassle I finally got my Blaze to connect to my Android phone (Nexus 5X) via bluetooth classic. When I start playing music on my phone, I can see the track on the fitbit, but when I press pause/next/previous on the fitbit, nothing happens to the music on the phone. It is connected and shows the current song on the blaze so obviously it is connected and getting info from the phone... I cannot seem to control volume either.

Well, apparently I was not patient enough. I tried to disconnect from the fitbit and reconnect and now it does allow me to control the music. Great stuff!
