Device innacurately recording distance

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

There is either an issue with the device or there is something I am not doing correctly.

After going on a a number of runs using my Blaze to track my pace and distance, I felt like it was a lot faster than I would expect. One day I thought my battery was going to die so I started tracking my run on the app (iPhone 6). After completeing the same run the distance was very different.

My next run I went on, I decided to track the run using both my blaze and the app and the results varied significantly. The app showed distance of 7.9km, whilst the device showed 9.4km. Both have been mapped the same.  I have taken a screenshot of both. Is this a known issue, can this be changed with a setting or some other user changes? GPS was synced to the phone as well.

It's extremely dissapointing as part of the reason for purchasing the blaze was to be able to get accurate information whilst running.

A warm welcome to the Community @TimmE.

If your distance information isn't being accurate, I recommend adjusting your stride length information. After you do this, test your tracker. Now about the screenshots you took, you can attach them in your next post by following the instructions provided in this post.

Hope to hear from you soon. Smiley Happy

Hi

Thanks for your response. After further investigation this doesnt appear to be the problem.

I went for a run yesterday and used both the app and my fitbit.

The app recorded my run as 4.7km (4700m) and a total of 3511 steps. If we divide distance by steps to work out stride length (Assuming that is correct) then this is 1.33m or 133cm. Stride length was set to 135. I can certainly accept some level of variance and to me that is within tolerance.

However, on my fitbit, total steps was recorded as 5.44km (5440m) and a total of 3690 steps. Using the same calculation then stride length is equal to 1.47m (147cm) despite it being set to 135cm. If I take total steps taken (3690) times the stride length of 135cm then this = 4981m or 4.98km, which is a little closer to total distance.

Have I calculated something or misunderstood?

I have attached screenshots. Your assistance is appreciated. App Run Upload.JPGFitbit Run Upload.JPGSide by side.JPG
