External HRM not supported?

Hi!

I love how the blaze looks. I want a new tracker and I have to decide to go with the blaze or the garmin vivoactive hr.

The only thing i hate about the blaze is, that I can't connect an external HRM (chest band), which woul be way better for gym workouts.

Is there any chance to add this feature via softwareupdate? Or is this a feature we won't see with the blaze?

Hi there @Sunset1982. Good to see you in the Community! 🙂

At the moment, Fitbit doesn't support this and upon looking into the Feature Suggestions, it seems that it has already been suggested back in 2014 but it hasn't been looked into, which leads me to think that something like this will not be available for Fitbit or at least not anytime soon.

Thanks for understanding and if you have any other question, let me know!

Fitbit does not allow any 3rd party devices to directly connect with a Fitbit account. However, they do allow the input of data from other devices via 3rd party apps. Here is a list of some compatible apps. There are many others as well. Fitbit provides a free and open API to 3rd party developers to sync their data with your Fitbit account. It's just a matter of finding a 3rd party app that meets your needs.

Fitbit does not allow 3rd parties to sync HR or GPS data.

Last time I checked there were only two apps that created a manual activity in Fitbit - Endomondo and Strava. Open? Not really, Garmin Connect syncs my bike rides including HR and GPS to 5 other services and that's what I call open. Services that support power data (biking version of runners pace) will also receive that data.

Endomondo will sync the ride to Fitbit, but Fitbit doesn't allow importing HR and GPS.... unlike Strava, MapMyFitness, Endomondo, TrainingPeaks, RideWithGPS, Garmin Connect, etc, etc.
