Fitbit Blaze not tracking bike ride

I am trying to get my Fitbit Blaze to track my bike rides. I have the bluetooth on, on my phone and on my Blaze. I believe I did all the setup but every time I try to sync my blaze to my phone to start a bike ride, it tells me it can not connect to my phone and to check my app. What does that mean? I have turned on auto record exercise, so it is recording that I am bike riding, but I want to know how far and how fast. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it or what step am I missing?

Without knowing what phone, I suggest to make sure that it is compatable for the connected gps. 

Make sure that the app is in memory and notification services are turned on. 

Then try a restart of the phone which has been reported by many to be the fix.
