Fitbit Blaze step count inaccurate

Hey there,

Today was my first full day rocking my Blaze. I went to an outdoor festival and had some solid step count, however, when I got home and checked my step count I noticed that the blaze tracked about 1/4 the steps I actually took. My iPhone health app logged about 10K and my Fitbit did about a 1/4 of that (2500). Also I noticed it did an auto workout and thought I had rode my bike. I think this is due to my sons stroller I was pushing. Any suggestions on how to calibrate? If I go for a run and use the GPS- will that help? Thanks!

RE:  Dawnlerae agree 100%

10,000 steps on my surge was 5.1 miles.

I am currently at 11,845 on my blaze and 2.62 miles.

I found that my blaze is about 2,400 steps behind my surge as well which is a triple downer considering miles and steps are off and no active GPS.

The Surge looks ugly compared to my blaze but gives me beautiful results.

Going to send mine back.

oh yes as mentioned many times above by others - heart rate and calories burned are off too.

Enough whining by me...back it goes...

I had the Apple Watch before the blaze. It is a great watch but not for fitness.

I am also having troubles with the Blaze. Giving me inaccurate steps. I ran for an hour and it showed only 3000 steps. It is also showing huge gaps in my sleep .

Can I ask you why. I read that it was great for fitness.

And again... walking round Sainsburys, pushing a trolley... no steps counted... not acceptable!

The step count was inaccurate during exercise and when going throughout my day, you have to charge it daily so tracking my sleep was not an option. Even when I was exercising, it would log my minutes wrong. For example I could be exercising for 30 minutes and it would say I had only been "active" 8 minutes. I had to track my water and food in other apps.

This is the real killer for me.  I like the simplicity of the Fitbit app.  It's a one-stop-shop.

I also got the blaze yesterday and it is not accurately counting my steps. Usually for 20 minutes I get 2400 steps but today only got 600. It is way out.

@Tkcmom - I have the same complaints as you do w the AW. I found the experience w the AW to be disjointed by having to go in and out of so many apps. Although the flip side, the AW seems to much more accurate than the Blaze. Here's a YouTube video I discovered last night comparing calorie burn w AW, Fitbit, Vivoactve and the MS Band 2.

I think I needed to hear that. I was seriously considering a return and buying the Apple Watch Sport but didn't really want all the apps, wifi capabilities, etc..on my arm on a small screen. But I was super torn! Guess I'll keep the Blaze. It's now keeping pretty accurate count. It's almost like it had to learn my routine.

My Blaze says I currently have 8,500 steps and my Health app on my iPhone says 11,100. Geez.

While on a walk or run, how do the steps comoare @Rescue141x? This is when the trackers can count correctly.

The phone and Blaze are monitoring different parts of your body. The phone is looking at movements of the pocket, and the Blaze looks at arm motions. Both will be accurate during a walk outside, while during your normal daily routine when the movements are not as predictable, both can be off.

My Blaze consistently under counts my steps by about 2000 for every 10,000
steps I take. I compare it to my charge HR which I consider to be fairly
accurate.

I am way more concerned with having my cell on and close to my body, than I am about exact steps (but I do hope the Blaze shapes up.. otherwise I am sticking to my CHARGE HR.

I actually did an experiment finally wearing both my Blaze and Charge HR for an entire day (sleeping and waking until going to bed at night) on the same arm. They surprisingly stayed very close the whole day except during Spin class! I was shocked at this as I was confident the Charge HR was overcounting since my husband somehow has so many steps and he doesn't do much walking during the day. What I have found is that the Charge HR counts for about 10% more steps than the Blaze does consistently (at least during the entirety of my experiment) but the Blaze gives more steps during Spin which makes more sense than the number of steps the Charge gave me. Btw - I took notes to and from my desk to the pantry, on my lunch break walking long distances in the city, to and from the subway, and the whole time was always about a 10% difference.

Then when I finally got home, I saw that I got about 97 steps for washing the dishes for about 30 minutes on the Charge HR (86 on the Blaze), but when my husband wore the Charge HR and did the same amount of dishwashing, he got over 800 steps on the Charge...neither of us do a lot of walking during dish washing obviously! This led me to a new conclusion: I believe both the Blaze and the Charge HR are actually pretty decent actual step trackers (especially since they stayed within 10% of each other in my experiment consistently throughout the day; the heart rate on both were almost identical throughout the day as well and even during Spin); however it is the NON step activity for which they are not the same. The Charge is a lot more sensitive to non-step activity especially depending on the user. When I realized this it made a lot more sense why my husband got so many steps at home in our small apartment. He's not walking...he just moves more than I do?

This was also confirmed when I spent an entire morning in the city walking around and got a little over 6k steps on my Blaze; this made sense to me as the distance I walked was approximately 3 miles in total. But a friend of mine had 5k steps on her charge HR without leaving her apt. Do you know how many times you'd have to circle a small NYC apartment to get 5k steps? The Charge, depending on the user, is highly sensitive to non-step based activity and I think that's why a lot of people are seeing such a significant decrease in their steps when they've switched to the Blaze.

Lastly to confirm my theory, my husband wore my Blaze on another day, when he got home from work he had a little over 4K steps instead of his usual 7k he gets from his Charge. Again this made perfect sense to me because the only walking he does on weekdays is to and from the apartment to his car and to and from the office to his car (very short distances). 7k steps is 3.5 miles approximately, he never walks that much! I'd go so far as to say the Blaze is still a bit generous. Hope my findings are helpful to the thread!

With all this I have accepted the differences between the models and am really still loving the Blaze. I can't really ever win any challenges against other Fitbit Users since theirs are so much more generous with steps, but I still find it fun and motivating regardless.

That's great that yours seems accurate. However, I'm pretty sure I
walk more than 1000-1200 steps per mile. Yesterday, my 4.16 mile walk
netted me only 4,829 steps.

@Tranloco mine is pretty accurate now. It's been almost three weeks and I love it. Just took time to adjust to my movements.
