Hi there,
My Fitbit Blaze tracks my rocking as steps. I love my rocker recliner but can't wear my Fitbit while in the chair. Rocking is kinda my thing (outside or inside) so I'd love to be able to wear the Fitbit without it tracking the rocking motion as steps. Can this be implemented in a software update in the future? I'm not expecting an immediate change or fix, but this should be considered so that steps can be more accurately counted by the Fitbit. I see myself sometimes hitting 10k steps a day or even more and 60% of that is my rocking in my chair while at home (I know... I rock a lot). Thanks!
Best regards,
Derek

This really isn't a software update.
Wrist models will count false steps such as this as well as brushing your teeth. It sees the arm moving and counts. Is your arm on your knee or the arm rest? If so I see it counting. Sorry

I'll bet a clip on zip on the waist may also detect some steps.

Clever software engineering--depending on the mechanics of the accelerometer--could potentially differentiate the patterns between walking and rocking. That's why I wondered if the hopefully clever software engineers at Fitbit could provide solutions for false steps as we've described. I may be hopelessly optimistic, but working in the software world, I know that a lot of things are possible... it just depends on a smart person to write the right code with the hardware they have at hand. 🙂

Derek

Brushing your teeth, driving your car, rocking in a chair, stirring a pot, petting your cat or dog, any motion that simulates arm movement while walking will record steps, generally two at a time. I took a long trip wearing mine and recorded 10,000 steps and only stepped out of my vehicle 4 times the whole day.

Great to welcome you @SunsetRunner, @WendyB, @Rich_Laue and @lapriester thanks for stopping by.
As mentioned by our friends here, arm movements can be considered as steps and as suggested, you can take a look at the Stop counting "steps" while in a rocking chair request, vote for it and leave your comment. I hope this idea can be taken into consideration.
Happy stepping!
