GPS on iPhone now requires location to always be on

GPS tracking on my Blaze for tracking exercise on my iPhone, use to allow me to select the location setting  "Only when using this app."  Now Fitbit requires location to be "Always On" for it to record this information.  Typically the reason a company would make such a change is to allow more information to be collected on a user for marketing purposes even when they are not exercising, which is making me consider moving away from Fitbit.  Is this why Fitbit made the change?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums @SmaxOutdoors! I apologize for the delay in my response. Thanks for sharing your point of view about the Always On requirement when using GPS tracking on your iPhone. I appreciate all the details you provided, they're really helpful.

In answer to your question, The Always On option, it's just for the Fitbit App to be ready to start tracking the activity, because if you have the option Only when using this app, you will have to have the app running in back ground all the time. It has nothing to do with collecting information for marketing purposes.

Please let me know if you have more questions, I will be around! 😊
