I was in the ellpitical machine today and i was using the sensor on the machine, as well as the fitbit blaze and both were the same readings, the difference here is that the elliptical machine said I burned around 85 calories and the fibit blaze said 135 this in 10 minutes (it was just for testing the HRM on the fitbit blaze)

Which is the closest to reallity in terms of burned calories? I use metric system but here are my stats: 1.70 meters tall

83.5 kg

28 years old

Even with your height, weight, and age, it would be very difficult for anybody to opine which of the two readings is correct.  Why?  We have no way of knowing how much effort you put into your workout.  To be quite honest, both numbers sound reasonable at this point.

My point exactly.

Hi guys, good to see you in the Community @shipo @Espare!

I would say that unless the elliptical has a way to know your heart rate directly from your body, the Blaze is a better reading. Your effort will definitely show on the heart rate as more or less effort will lead to faster/slower heart pumping which will tell how much effor you were putting in it and that way it will give you a reading.

Most of the ellipticals do not use HR for calories. Just take off your hands off the handles and calories will go up at the same rate. Anyway, elliptical always over estimate calories. 125 calories for 10 mn on an elliptical is a lot. That is 13 calories per mn. You have to had your HR in zone IV at least.
It looks like the 85 calories may have been more correct.

@FerdinandFitbit You are very welcome. I have tested a lot of fitness trackers and I have to admit that the blaze is maybe my favorite one. It is very good looking, customizable and has great features. The only thing that may me return it was the calories counts and not very accurate in high intesnity exercise.
In the truth, i could have cope with that but wanted to try a different band, so I needed the money to purchase the other one. I have not tried the new firmware update and would be tempted to get another blaze. The gun metal version I had was truely amazing. The only thing is that if something goes wrong, I would not be able to return it anymore to amazon as I have used my max amount of returns.
But like I said, the blaze is certainly my favorite fitness tracker. I was able to find on my arm the right spot for good HR and the integration with MPF and the streaming of the HR on the app is a plus.

The fit bit Blaze was the one with the highest calories burned, both devices the blaze and the elliptical give the same exact HR readings, but I think the blaze has way more data about who I am to give a better estimate, I think?. I did a weekly count of all deficit calories and almost predicted exactly the amount of weight I lost that week so I think it's really close to reality, to be honest that really gives me peace of mind, I thought the numbers where way off but it turns out they don't at all. Let's see what happens this week. 🙂
