HRM stops working when I leave home screen.

Hi! I just got a Blaze and was super excited about the Heart Rate Moniter, until I noticed that every time I leave the home screen and enter some of the other options, it stops working. All I see are two dashes and no amount of adjusting, moving, or anything will turn it back on. To get it to start working again I either have to restart it, or turn off the HRM and then turn it back on, which is a pain. Is this a normal problem?
