Heart rate and Calories Burned

I'm a former Zip and Charge user so the Blaze is the first device I've used with heart rate moniter. I've noticed with the Blaze that my calories burned for the day are considerably higher than the Zip or Charge calculated. Is this due to heart rate? Should I assume that the Blaze is the most accurate of the three devices?

Seeing that the Blaze is an all day activity tracker with a heart rate monitor, it has more information to work with. I think the assumption that it is more accurate would be safe. That is assuming that the heartrate monitor is working correctly and that you have entered your information correctly in the beginning. It takes into account your Basal Metabolic Rate by creating an estimate based on your height, weight, and age. I think that the different exercise modes use different algorithms to determine caloric expenditure too. I believe that over a long period of time the Blaze should be more accurate than the devices you have mentioned. With all of these wrist-based heart monitors, one should look for trends opposed to exact metrics, though.

@dinaree Welcome, and all HR monitors do have a tendency to calculate higher calories because of the HR. Be happy with your checking of the HR, because I'm now enjoying a more stable detected HR with the Blaze.  On the Charge HR while asleep it would  always spike through the sleep period and at my age the Fat Burning zone starts at 72 bpm, hence exaggerated calories.

As @AdamMSC posted, trends are what we should be looking at because that will include any of your body movements that your Blaze interprets.

@AdamMSC Thank you for your input. Another question... I am 45 years old, 5'2 inches tall, roughly 103 lbs. Yesterday, I had 10, 482 steps, burned 2450 calories, and was in the fat burning zone for 11 hours 17 minutes. This was all without exercising. Could this be right?

That being said, I was wearing the Blaze a little bit loosely with the screen on the inside of my wrist ( back of screen still touching wrist). Last evening, I tightened the strap and the screen is on outside of wrist. Already today I've been in the fat burning zone for nearly two hours. Haven't noticed a difference in heart rate while wearing the device differently.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

The past year  I have used the FitBit Charge HR, and now since I have switched to the Blaze, I too have noticed an increase on my caloric burn. I am not sure as to why though. Both Fitbits were able to track my heart rate, so I would not think in my case, it would change so significantly...
