When you have a personal heart rate you'd like to know when you achieve rather than the standard three zones.
Here is more reading...
Standard zones are good for most fitbitters, all about finding that fat burn zone and staying there as long as you can 🙂

What does custom mean
For many folks, myself included, the standard zones are either too low on the upper (workout) end or too high on the lower (resting/sleeping) end, or both. Using my metrics as an example, due to the various formulas used by the Fitbit folks they've decided someone my age cannot exceed 161 BPM when exercising, however, I can push my heart rate up into the low 180s during a race or when running hard climbing a hill; the flip side is also the case in that their formulas say someone my age cannot have a heart rate much below 50 BPM when resting; the thing is, my sleeping heart rate is usually 2 BPM on either side of 35.
With the above said, I created a Custom Zone which ranges between 30 and 190; that way many of my heart rate graphs are not clipped at the upper and lower ends.
