How long should it take for initial charge?

I just bought the blaze. Took it out of it's packaging, put it on charge, installed the app, set up and account put in all my details etc. etc. it's been on charge for about 3 hours but it's still reading as an empty battery on the phone app and the screen just says fitbit.com/setup. The app is telling me an update is required, but it won't let me as the battery is too low. A quick google search told me it shouldn't take this long, does it sound defective? Is this normal?

Where did you buy it from? Fitbit stopped making and selling the Blaze a while ago. It's possible it sat on a shelf somewhere with a dead battery. I would return it.
