Is the Blaze worth purchasing?

Right now I have the surge. I like it a lot, but it seems to be outdated and the blaze has all the same features and more! I just want to know is it worth giving up my surge and spending $200 on the new blaze fitbit?

That would be your decision, with the Blaze your giving up the built on GPS, for connected GPS..
The Blaze has better music control.
Both receive texts, and call notifications, stopwatch, timer, auto sleep etc.
The Blaze has color display, and thinner.
I kept the Surge connected and added the Blaze.

You'll miss the in-built GPS of the Surge but gain a whole lot more.

I had the Charge and 2 units had the bubble/peeling skin issue; also I was tiring of the same tiny OLED screen.

The Blaze has a great colour display, no build quality issues and interchangeable straps. I love mine and would never go back to a monochrome tracker.

I also came from a Surge and am very pleased with my choice.

The Surge was a great tracker, but the drawback of the integrated GPS was the thickness of the watch.  When wearing a work shirt it would constantly get caught in the sleeve cuffs and generally annoy me.  And, lets be honest, whilst it was a great tracker, it wasnt the best looking device.  Also, when doing my runs I was taking my phone with me so I could listen to my Spotify running playlists...so the integrated GPS was superfluos.

The Blaze sync's great with my iPhone, looks great and is thin enough to be worn under a shirt with sleeves.  The call, iMessage and calendar notifications are also great.

I say...go for it!

The simple difference is the built in GPS of the Surge vs the Connected GPS of the Blaze.  If you have issues taking your phone with you when you go on a run/walk/jog etc, then stick with the Surge, otherwise there's no reason not to get the Blaze.

  • Just FYI you can get it for $160 at Bed Bath and Beyond with their 20% off coupon, that's what I did!

I tried online and the 20% discount would not work for the FitBit.  I called Bed Bath and Beyond Customer Servcie and was told that FitBits are restricted from the 20% coupons and first time online discounts.  I read the fine print on the 20% coupon and FitBits were listed in the restricted items.  A brick and mortar store may still override this but I couln't get it done online on Tursday.

I hope others are still successful.  I ended up purchasing elsewhere but I couldn't find it less than the advertised price.

Yes, I went to an actual store. I didn't read the fine print and I guess neither did the lady at the store. It worked with no problems.

Another option is if you use Ibotta they have a $10 rebate when you spend $100 at Best Buy right now, but I'm pretty sure that also has to be done in an actual store.

The Blaze is awesome. I have a Surge and while it's a great tracker, it's hard (for me) to get past the look as an everyday watch. I have been on the lookout for a fitness tracker/watch that I can wear daily in just about any environment. I wanted a tracker with watch features, so I didn't have to wear my watch plus a tracker. I do like my watches, but I have been looking for an all in one for a while. The Blaze does just that, with good battery life compared to others with similar features. It does all it is advertised to do- no more, no less. I have been very happy with it and have worn it daily for the last couple months- no regrets at all. For me, it's exactly what I have been looking for since about the last 1.5 years or so.

I've had the Charge for a little over a year and I'm on my second one. The first one peeled away near the face on both sides within 6 months and FitBit replaced it. Now, 6 months later, the replacement did the same thing and I'm being told it's no longer under warranty. I don't want to buy another Charge just to get 6 months out of it. The style of the Surge looks to be the same so I feel like I'd have the same issue. Is the Blaze more durable? I don't know why they keep falling apart on me but I'm tired of it.

Hi @Kfillips

Merged your post with this thread from @CHELSEALB104 regarding a similiar question..

Coryzsmith got a good deal because the employee was too lazy and probably did an over-ride when the coupon did not work....or they did not care enough to know Fitbits are not a part of discounts.

To me, as long as you won't miss the GPS, you will like the Blze 1000X more.  The best part is the ability to change bands very easily and cheaply through third party sellers on Amazon.  There are tons of different leathers and stainless steel, including mesh bands athat really help you have a different look.  The problem with the ChargeHR and the Surge is that horribly boring look, the Blaze is not that way at all.

I did recieve mine last week and I'm incredibly happy with it so far. I worry a little about cracking or scratching the screen while I'm working but so far it's been fine.

Screen protectors for it are really cheap on amazon. If you have a friend with a prime account, then you can get it in a couple days. I ordered some recently after realizing I was beating the screen up some. I also ordered more bands.

I love how customizable it is with regards to the bands and frames... I have really gotten into the third party bands and have had nothing but success with them. They are much cheaper than what fitbit offers, and they look awesome!

I've got the same question. I have the Surge and the front edges of the skin started wearing at the corners after about 9 months and exactly 13 months and a day out of warranty I got the cracks on the back by the screws. I haven't contacted fitbit about it because I'm still a little peeved at this. I'm no longer eligable for a replacement but probably the 25% discount. Since I'm not interested in a 200$ Surge-as-a-subscription service I won't be buying a new Surge if they only last a year. I am thinking about the Blaze. I have 3 years worth of data in the fitbit world and my One was awesome, I love the Surge apart from it's propensity to break at the band and not being able to get a replacement just out of warranty. I don't use the GPS function and I don't have a smartphone so I don't care about phone messages or music. I do need time, steps, chronograph and multiple activities. Just searching here to see if the Blaze will last unlike the Surge-as-a-subscription device.

I just bought a Blaze a couple of hours ago.  I am about to bring it back.  The iPad app I had downloaded on my iPad Air 2 is gone and I cannot get it back, so I can't set it up that way.  I went to the Windows Store and got their app and no matter what I do, how many times I 'reset' the Blaze, it will not complete my Blaze update.  I am just about done.

EDIT- Managed to update this via my Kindle tablet.  I am still not happy about the lack of an available iPad app 😞
