Please remember that the elyptical is reporting a hypothetical distance based on the amount of spins the wheel takes. This is not directly related to the amount of movement the feet take. Yes there is gearing but when the feet pause at the top and bottom the wheel continues to turn. Maybe figuring out how far (stride) the wheel turns per foot movement, then fracturing this in will help with the distance. This measurement will be unique to each elyptical model on the market.
As for calories, i have my thoughts but don't monitor them, but understand that the efficiency of the biddy week determine the accuracy.

@Datredhed fitbit used calories as the common measurement between exercises.
I could add spinning, biking, swimming, yoga, workout, kick boxing, etc to the list of exercises that are not step based. Out of the 20 available exercises, at best only 8 have steps involved.
