Lawn mowing smarttracked as outdoor cycling

I'm confused as to why my fit bit Blaze would record mowing the lawn as outdoor cycling. It did seem to give me credit for the steps that I took while mowing the lawn as I watched the step count go up and went over 14,000 steps today much of which was added while mowing. I just don't understand why it would think it was cycling and if it did why was I still getting steps for it?

Sadly, SmartTrack doesn't always live up to its name.

It doesn't affect or change any of the data your fitbit tracks, such as your steps, but simply tries to detect activities and highlight the time period for you to analyse. Sometimes it just gets it wrong.

I never cycle so I chose to switch off cycling detecting in the SmartTrack settings so this sort of thing doesn't happen. If you'd like to do the same this article explains how:

@Arlyne I'd imagine it chose cycling as it assumed the vibrations from the mower were somewhat akin to the vibrations from bumps in the road had you been cycling. As @SteveH says, you can disable SmartTrack if you don't cycle. You can also delete the erroneous cycle activity from your list of activities.

Hello @Arlyne, @SunsetRunner and @SteveH! It's great to have you here. 😉  @Arlyne the movement and vibrations on your lawn mower might be detected as outdoor cycling. You can delete the activity recorded by SmartTrack as @SunsetRunner mentioned and the steps recorded during this time will remain on your account.

Catch you later! 🙂
