Miles in summary different then in gps page

Recently I turned on my gps to log my walking route. When finished it said 1 mile. Then when I clicked the finish flag it stated I had walked half that distance. Same thing for a 3.29 mile hike. Once I pressed the finish flag it stated I had done 2.80even though it shows my split times for all 3.29 mikes! What gives? How can I fix the discrepancy?
