Mt biking - counting steps and floors

Where I mountain bike, it is fairly rugged and thus my arms are in constant motion.  When I complete a mt bike ride, it is clear that I am getting credited with lots of steps and floors climbed, as well as the actual ride itself.  So it is significantly overstating my stats and calories burned for that day.

 

Why would it accumulate steps and floors climbed when you are specifically telling it that you are engaged in another activity, in this case mt biking?  It makes no sense to me, unless I am missing something.

Hi, @Mike_Aswell! I don't think any of the Fitbit activities are specifically designed to recognize you don't take steps and overwrite them (with the exception of driving). However, on the bright side, it's not double counting calories, it's overwriting what you otherwise would have gotten from steps.

MakMak, thank you.  It's fairly new so I didn't have a large sample size, but the day in question my calorie count seemed way too high, even taking into account the extra burned biking.

 

I'm riding tonight so I am going to take more careful note of where I am prior to ride, after ride, and what I am getting credited with for the "exercise" (ride).  Glad to know it shouldn't double credit calories burned.

Basically Fit bits are totally useless at logging bike rides of any kind and fit bit are too lazy to fix it.
Sorry read lots about it since getting a charge HR and frankly fit bits are pointless if you ride a bike

@Cjlynch Why do you think it's pointless for logging bike rides?  There is a "Bike" exercise mode on the Blaze specifically for it.

1. I have charge HR not a blaze
2. It's no where close to my garmin edge with heart strap and power meter nor strava app. It's 50% out calories wise and adds floors climbed and steps taken to the dashboard and all challenges etc

So it's totally inaccurate over a day, and gets worse through a week.
In 4 days and 3 rides outdoors and 1 indoors I have done 90000+ steps and climb 1000+ floors apparently. All garbage because I wore it during rides.
The charge HR at least is useless for rides the app and site need fixing to stop counting steps and floors on the bike and that would go a long way to fixing things but fit bit have known this for apparently over 12 months

Let's first look at stairs climbed, any extra calories burnt climbing up, will be that many less calories burnt when going down. Fitbit has never used stair count to determine calories burnt.

 

While recording a bike ride as a bike ride, while Fitbit doesn't remove the steps, it also didn't look at the steps to determine calories burnt.

There is a suggestion to have Fitbit remove all steps, because of bouncing handlebars, recorded, then we have the suggestion to have a bike rode converted to steps.I would say that Fitbit will not be able to please both users.

Calorie burn is heart rate based and the charge HR can't not measure my heart rate to within 50% when I do any activity other than walking and sitting, indoor bike at slow speed.
So thank you for your point but sadly mis-guided

Fit bit should not count any steps at all or floors climbed when riding a bike, lifting weights, doing aerobics or in fact any activity that's logged as an activity. At the very least it should allow the user to edit the activity so the information is useful in fact the later is what Fitbit should do allow the stuff to be edited.
That does make everyone happy, those that wish to track actual activity and calories burned can and those that do less vigorous activity can also, simple
