Music player will pause a song but not start one?

I have done my due diligence and read, read, read trying to find a solution on my own and am still at a loss.

I am a group fitness instructor and the music control capability is the reason I went with the Blaze. While I am teaching class- I need to be able to start and stop tracks within my playlist. Last night, while using my Blaze for the first time in class, it would allow me to pause songs- but it wouldn't let me start them! I had to have a student go to my phone (Samsung Note 5) and manually hit "play"

HELP!!!!! I will have to return this if it does not meet this need 😞
