Must I keep my Bluetooth on?

I have an iPhone 6plus and a Fitbit Blaze. Keeping my Bluetooth on seems to drain the battery on my phone a bit more. Do I have to keep it turned on? I'd still like to receive text and call notifications.

If my blue tooth is off will fit bit read the info & sync with the phone when blue tooth is switched on?

New Job says have to turn Bluetooth off while at work... I turned the Bluetooth on my iPhone off at home to test if still counts steps...and it Didn’t count my steps?  I have a Fitbit charge 3
