My new Fitbit blaze only works in charger

I just bought a Fitbit blaze and it seems to only work in the charger.

it shows me that battery is full and I can go through all my apps and steps etc. as soon as I take it out and goes black. I have tried to reset it and nothing happens. It only works in the charger.

is this a fault or am I meant to do something else.
