I haven't borrows this yet, but yes others have. First is this challange being held in your time zone? Ive been in contests that started at noon my time, therefore non of my steps before noon counted.
Others found out that logging out of the app and back in, brought the data up to date.

Did you try logging out of the app, closeing the app is not the same. Logging out/in forces the app to load a fresh copy of the data.

I have the same problem as you!!! The challenges show the truth and the dashboard doesn't. Called fitbit support and maybe you should force restart your tracker. http://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186 Didn't work for me but try it out.

Restarting the tracker should not affect any past steps, and it definately wont effect any steps the have already synced to Fitbit. These steps are no longer in the tracker.
Now if your on androod clearingthe cash might help. This will force the app to reload the data from Fitbit. Otherwise try logging out then back in.
