Nearly all readings given by my Blaze tracker are wrong

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

How can we correct this problem?  Restarting the tracker doesn't help.  The only reading it gives that might be correct is distance measurement.  None of the other readings are correct.

I bet the distance is wrong too.  Mine certainly is. Over by 10 to 15% consistently.

Hi there @AgingMantella @marjoriejean28. Good to see you both in the Community Forums!

@marjoriejean28, I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your tracker. For this, I can recommend checking your settings and making sure that your personal information as your height, weight, gender, age and others are entered correctly. Most of the time, the cause of inaccurate information is that some pieces of information in the Personal settings have been entered wrong.

Hope this helps and let me know if you need more help with this!

Ferdinand, can you explain why the distance measure on a run, when i start the activity from my Blaze is around 15% longer than the exact same run, when I start the Fitbit activity from my phone? The measure from the phone is just about right, when i check against map based sites (map my run etc)

If I have the wrong info entered, why are the distances as reported by the fitbit app so different when started on the Blaze or the phone?

This is a common complaint, on these forums, are fitbit actually working on this?

My Fitbit blaze.   Brand new. <2 months old.     Has been on a book shelf at home with a dead battery for a week.     But.           It registers that I'm burning over 1800 calories per day.  Not what I expected for $250

I suspect the reason for the difference is the Fibit Activity from your phone is using the GPS from your phone to track the distance. Your Blaze, is calculating the distance based upon the stride lengths entered in the advanced settings. These are set to estimated or average values by default when you entered your height. Here is how to calculate and enter more accurate values. https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1135

Another thought to keep in mind, is the Blaze, and other non GPS/linked trackers,  presume each step we take will be the same length. That dosen't happen in reality, the faster we move, the longer our stride becomes.

My problem is it calculating calories burned when I'm not wearing it and it
has a dead battery

That is because the fitbit app, loaded onto the device displaying how many calroies you're burning, is presuming that your battery is not dead.

@mysterymeatand @AgingMantella In the Southern Hemisphere, some of us have tested, and found the Blaze with Connected GPS has a mathematical error in an East/West direction gaining approx  12" or 30cm/second.  North/South mathematics is perfect.  The same as the Charge HR 2

The mapping is perfect. In my case, the pace gives me 2min/km faster at the same time as my Surge on the other wrist tracks pace correctly. When you plan just an East/West route the Blaze immediately starts out at around 2 mins/Km faster than the Surge and maintains that.  MapMyRun and MobileTrack and Polar Beat have no issues..

Here is a recent short test comparing steps/minute and pace.and you can see the peaks and valleys of pace. The valleys were North/South and at the end of the test you can see the pace increased and the Blaze spm dropped. I used the Fitbit One as my benchmark for stepping speed..

@OnestackWelcome..... Your Dashboard is calculating your BMR, your calories burned while resting and asleep. This is normal for Fitbit and all of your activity includes BMR.

Also it allows new users to join Fitbit and input their data from a third party and still get controllable results..

should not be normal. And certainly is not accurate

@OnestackI apologize for not explaining myself fully. Fitbit uses the same equations in this calculator to arrive at your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). That is stored in your Dashboard on the Fitbit servers.  When you use the calculator to calculate BMR you can see how important it is to have your personal physical settings correct.

This calculates to within 1% of my Fitbit BMR and the baseline figure is synced to your Fitbit tracker.  Your per minute activity calorie burn is added to your BMR .

That is good to know when the Blaze is connected to GPS. Regardless of direction, why is there a big difference in the calculated distance by the Blaze, with no help from GPS whatsoever, verses Blaze with GPS?
