The Fitbit Blaze is getting an update. Fitbit announced on Monday that its fitness smartwatch will soon receive an update that enables third-party notifications and other new features.

The Blaze, which costs $230 in the US (£179 in the UK and AU$370 in Australia), was released earlier this year. The watch can track steps, distance, calories burned, active minutes and sleep. It was also the first Fitbit that could display incoming calls, text messages and calendar alerts when connected to an iPhone orAndroid phone.

Users will soon be able to view notifications from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Gmail and other third-party apps. The update will also add five new watch faces to the Blaze, which brings the total to nine, and a new move reminder feature.

The feature was previously found in the Fitbit Alta and is included on the new Charge 2and Flex 2. Rather than a basic "stand" or "move" reminder, the Blaze will now encourage users to meet a mini-step goal of 250 steps each hour. If the goal hasn't been reached 10 minutes prior to the top of the hour, the watch will gently vibrate to remind you to get up and go.

The update will begin rolling out to Blaze owners later this week.

@Rich_Laue I only ever got information from fitbit. I upgraded my fitbit from a charge HR to the blaze based off of an email from fitbit that made me believe this was something that would be available as an update by the time my blaze arrived. Now I have a blaze that doesn't do anything my HR didn't do. So what was the point of spending all of that money? I spent $250 for nothing. In reasonably upset.

Rich is a KoolAid drinker -- anything Fitbit does is mahvahlus.  Fitbit is really good a disappointing and total lack of feedback.  Fitbit customers have been so fed up, they suggest the competitors product on Fitbits site.

@Revlee they do? Wow. Way to have faith in your own products, Fitbit!

Had I known that upgrading to the blaze for this update was going to cause so much bloody drama, I would have spent another $50 and preordered the new apple watch. This is ridiculous. I doubt fitbit would even care if I returned this blaze and did that, though. The problem is that they don't care. It's not that apple can set a date and stick to it because they are the only company in the world that can do that. It's because they are almost ready to release or ready to release when they announce a date. They use the time in between to build hype and do the last stages of final testing. Instead, fitbit probably just started in July or August, hoped they would be done by September, so they started making promises. I'm more sorry I ever bought my blaze, by the day.

The fact that fitbit doesn't have any faith in their products, to the point they advertise competitor's on their own site, really makes me lose any faith I had left in fitbit. My next product will NOT be a fitbit. I'll give fitbit until the end of September before I make the call on returning the blaze.

@Gingerantics Not sure what you mean by that. We stand behind our products, but I'm sure you'll find other users discussing other products on our public forums. That's just the nature of a forum.

The press release said September and didn't specify a date, so I would imagine the update will be released before the end of the month.

I can definitely understand the frustration and confusion given that the Blaze product page was updated the same day as the press release, but that has since been corrected.

I read that the Blaze has a new update that was released September 6th I believe. Do you know when everyone can expect to receive it. I have 200.3 but I thought there was a newer one that added reminders to move and new clock faces. I have followed the instructions under "How to Update your Tracker" but there isn't an update showing through my Fitbit App. I do not have access to a computer.

@3StarMom I'm not sure where you read that, but no there is no update released yet. When it is released it will be a rolling release most likely spread out a week.

I've moved your post to the main thread on this subject. Please take a look at the first page.

The update clearly can't be that close to completion otherwise the website advertising the blaze showing the new faces and notifications wouldn't have been changed. If it's been cancelled or delayed I'd rather they just came clean.

@marc00s exactly. I think everyone would be happier with that then just sitting here with no real information.

I bought my blaze with the belief that an update would be available when it arrived or within the next week or so. Now all of a sudden that's just not happening. I'm debating weather I should return it or not. There are plenty of other products that compete with fitbit that can do what this update will supposedly do. I'm upset that I put my faith in fitbit for no reason. I'm seriously questioning my loyalty to a company that clearly has no loyalty toward it's long time customers.

And what gave you the "belif that an update would be available when it arrived".  You bought an item on an IOU and the press release clearly VERY CLEARLY says the update will be released "in September".  So Fitbit has not really done anything wrong in your case, you just had false expectations.

As for the Blaze not doing anything the Charge did you are ignoring many items.  FitStar, Text Message, Timers, multiple faces, and most of all, interchangeable bands.

You have real information, the update will be released in September.  If on October 1 there is no update then you can be rightfully upset, otherwise, Fitbit NEVER said anything other then a release in September, which is "real information".  You people are hilarous, angry when they are silent, angry then give a release saying all this stuff you folks wanted willbe added this month.....for pete sake, you will not be happy either way so just take it back.

I love this, but it is not on the site right now, looks like it has been replaced with the argyle one that people have been asking for since the beginning.  I love this one above, especially if the data showed up with a single tap like the Pop does.

@racertempo the site advertised the watch in the store with all the new upated features presented as if they were already available, without any coming soon or with update tba branding. I'm sure many bought this and expected those features because they were advertised. Even a moderator admits earlier in this post that they should have made it clearer that those features were part of a coming update, but instead Fitbit has since removed those features from the page. So he rightfully had that impression, they were advertised without any mention of an update on fitbits store. It's not his fault he bought th blaze before they redacted it.

Fitbit just needs to realize that iy's easier to say 'hey we're working on these things, we'll keep ya updated' then advertise it like it's available, say tba, then go silent. Oh and change advertisements...

@racertempo that is not what the website led anyone to believe. I never saw a press release. I, foolishly, trusted the website. My HR did alarms so that's just knew. FitStar is only a plus if you're willing to put out an additional fee. Interchangeable bands is nice, but for $50 more I could have gotten an apple watch which does everything this does and then some, with interchangeable bands, the ability to track my water intake from my wrist, the ability to answer texts and phone calls from my wrist, watch faces that aren't nearly as boring and are customisable...at least I know when the new firmware for that is going to be released which will add more features that clearly will outshine the fitbit blaze. Sadly, I already had my fitbit on the 7th when the press release for that was put out. Fitbit is the company that gave this impression on their website with a nice big "buy now" button. Blaming the people who believed the fitbit website isn't really fair. It's pretty much the same as blaming someone who was taken in a bate and switch scam.

I guess it's nice knowing when am update will be released, unlike one major OS that announces a release and been known to be 18 months late.

Clearly @racertempo is drinking the coolade. I've been a loyal fitbit customer for YEARS, and have had multiple devices. I have greatly enjoyed the products I have used. I bought this new device because I was given the impression it would have all of these improvements. If I wanted the blaze as it is now, I would have bought it when it came out. "In September" is vague and useless. The more iOS and apple watch OS will be out in September, on the 16th. THAT is real information. I understand that you disagree with those of us who are upset, but that doesn't make how we feel any less valid than you feel about the situation. Fitbit's email about this made it update sound imminent. Clearly it was not. "End of September" is better than just "September" with a website that sounds like it's dropping in the immediate future. Clearly you're just trolling the community boards to talk smack about people. We all just want some more information, some more concrete information. Unless you have that to give us, you're just trolling for a fight.

@racertempo you might want to edit your last post, the charge has multiple faces(4), one of which displays seconds.

Why are certain people getting so angry about paying customers stating their opinion on Fitbit's promise fulfilment, or lack of. I mean come on...if you buy a double cheeseburger from MyDonalds and you only get one piece of meat don't you feel angry?
Maybe we should all just say positive things about Fitbit and not mention their shortcomings...someone pass me the Kool aid!!
