Not counting steps while pushing a stroller but counting while standing and swinging arm

I noticed that when I'm pushing my kids on the stroller my Fitbit does not track my steps. Also if I stand in place but swing my arm with my watch on, it tracks a step per swing! What's going on? Can I trust my device?

Hello @Mrsvillatoro, it sounds as if your tracker is working properly.

You tracker is mounted to your arm and looking at arm motions, specifically arm motio s that are expected to be seen while the feet are stepping.. Standing still and swinging the arm would be the same as if you where running on a treadmill or running in place.

While pushing a cart there is not much atm motion, and the tracker thinks it v is sliding actoss the floor.

Yes but I'm still walking at a fast pace. It doesn't seem right that I put in over an hour of walking while pushing my kids and it doesn't record my steps or consider that as exercise

Was this resolved?  I’m having the same issue.

Probably not @Jenniferussell1, at least not until the human arm is redesigned to allow the hand to move up and down while attached to a fixed object.

This is one of the drawbacks to having a wrist based tracker as Fitbit, Garmin and Apple have.

The plus side is that a few arm movements may be counted as steps and I found over the week/month it all averages out
