I just purchased my fitbit blaze on offer up. This is the first fitbit Ive had, and I downloaded the fitbit app. When it searches for the device it just keeps searching for the device

Offer Up is a buy and sell type places, isn't it? If that is where you bought it, it could be a used item. For authorized retailers (click for list) are the only ones with a Fitbit warranty.

 

How are you trying to set up - if it's iOS, there is currently a known problem. Maybe wait and try it again.
