Running with Blaze - don't think so..

Well, when I realized that voice cues does not work when running with the blaze, I considered to return it since the cues are my coach when I run, I need to know if I should speed up or slow down. But then I was told that the Blaze has a "buzz cue", it will vibrate every "lap" and give a summary on the watch. By far not as good as a voice cue but might be ok until they fix it I thought. So I took it for a run and the vibration is far too weak to notice when running. I missed the first cue but constantly looked at the watch to get the second, and I could feel a tiny buzz when reaching my 2km mark and the watch displayed some kind of summary, but I had no chance to understand it because it disappeared very quickly and I didn't find any way to display it again.

So I guess I will have to try to start the run from the app, but as far as I understand it will not automatically start a run on the app, so I would get no live stats on the watch and no heartbeat data in the run, which was the main reason I bought it.

I guess the only way to get it to work as expected is to start a run on the watch and on the app at the same time, but this is not recommended since it would double track. But maybe I could write a script which automatically deletes the app run via the api...

So to all you runners that thinking about buying a Blaze. Don't! It's not a finished product, and we don't know if it ever will be because the developers has no blog , changelog, issue tracking, and probably all the resources are working with the next product already. Even if this is the worst missing feature there are several more that proofs that this product was released before it was finished.

* Laggy quick view/double tap view, especially on the pop-face and no setting that forces the screen to turn on on notifications/alarms.

* FitStar with three exercises which cannot be changed/customized, THIS IS A FREAKING DEMO!

* Only 4 faces which cannot be customized and none that works for business/dinners. None of them actually displays all data except the original face but it is analog and unusable for me. Not even all the faces that are advertised are available.

* Notifications can only handle simple characters, texts with smileys turns up as [?]

* No idle alert despite the fact that it is a highly requested feature

To end up with something positive, the Blaze makes me want to be more active in my daily life and it helps me to try to go to bed earlier, and that is very important to me. But as a exercise device it is pretty useless without a firmware update which might never happen.

I guess Garmin is the way to go for runners and bikers, but they are expensive and ugly (unless you buy the fenix)

I to am wondering if I bought the wrong product. I have been using Runtastic for 4 yrs and love the voice coach. Vibration just doesn't cut it. Thinking of bringing it back to the store.

You might want to vote for this, voice cues were never an advertised option.

Another thing that Apple got right is that watch and phone apps work together and you get live stats, with some apps giving you incredible level of stats customization on the watch. I'm not giving up my Garmin Edge bike computer for any wrist based smartwatch or multisport watch, however the Apple Watch is a perfect complement on the road and I wear it every ride.

The Fitbit app and does a great job encouraging people to walk or run, and the all-in-one app is an advantage for some (I prefer best-in-class vs all-in-one). However the Blaze and Surge are still fundamentally activity trackers and missing far too many basic features expected in a modern GPS watch or multisport watch.
