I have encountered same. However, while I turn off and turn on again the app it worked and moved to the following steps. Nevertheless, if the issue last it's an unpleasant experience of un-boxing.

Welcome to the Community @JRN15. That happened to me too, I recommend force quiting the app by doing the following:
1. Double tap the home button on your iOS device. Your open apps will show on your device's screen.
2. Close the Fitbit app by swiping the app image in an upward motion.
3. Reopen the Fitbit app.
After these steps open the app again and it should work normally.
