Step number changed from 7,800 down to 2,980

I just finished an hour on my treadmill & I finished at about 7,800.  While I was resting after my exercise, my Blaze went from 7800 up to 8,000, then up to 8,800, then down to 2,900.  What is going on??

I went for a long run today, it was tracking me, stopped at 1mile. I restarted it after I ran an additional 2miles. It got my last 3 miles, gave me my 10k step goal alert. And hours later I noticed I was down to 5200 steps. I synced it, rebooted. Nothing. Then I noticed  anytime I got to about 5700 steps it keeps bringing me back down to 5100. I have no idea what's happening. I fully charged it, rebooted, and updated it. Still happening. I've never had this issue before. Thought I'd join your thread because its a similar issue.
