Hey there @Blazingmandy. Welcome to the Fitbit Community! 🙂
At the moment, Fitbit trackers that will let you record exercise involving a bicycle will not count steps while you're cycling because you're really not taking steps but you're -to call it somehow- doing a "workout" while riding your bike. If you record it as a workout and later on categorize it as "Cycling" it will override any steps it recorded and instead, distance will only show up and other stats pertinent to the activity you were performing.
Not sure if this answered your question. If it didn't, let me know and I'll be happy to help!

But I logged it as a bike ride and yet my step count was about 3000 when I'd hardly done anything?
Is it able to falsly think you're walking whilst at the same time logging as a bike ride?
It was a very bumpy ride if that helps?
Also, I've not yet tried to do a bike ride without logging it via the exercise button.
I understand it recognises that you're on a bike. How does that work??

Oh, I see, I'm sorry @Blazingmandy.
Well, it should not record steps while cycling but I would advice making sure you're tracking the cycling activity from the exercise shortcuts on your Blaze. Once you stop tracking your cycling activity and sync it to your dashboard, the activity should appear there with no steps. I think this post will help you understand how it works.
Hope this helps. Any other doubt, let me know! 🙂

Thanks for trying but not really.
I did log it as a bike ride and still my step count was much higher than expected if it wasn't converted.
Also, it looks as if I've done loads more stairs than I've done. I wonder if the elevations I did on bike ride somehow got logged as stairs?
In all honesty, I'm happy with looking like I've done mroe steps and more stairs as ideally I would have liked my bike ride coverted in someway but it doesn't feel as accurated as it should be.

It is not going to convert your bikeride to steps, some people want this while others are just as adamant that all steps be removed. The steps typy are seeing ate from the boubcing of the handlebars.

I would love to have my spinning recorded as steps. Are there plans for this option in the future versions of the software?

Here are a few suggestions that you might consider voting for.
Convert biking to steps
Remove all steps while biking.
Add steps for spinning

Put a Zip or One on hip or in pocket, or use MobileTrack on your phone. You'll get plenty of steps.
The real issue here is that different Fitbit trackers give different results when cycling. Want more steps cycling? Downgrade to Zip or One, or lose the Fitbit tracker and use MobileTrack on your phone.
