Steps and miles not accurate

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.
I've confirmed my stride and walk the exact same distance with my husband who wears a charge and we get different results every time. It's considerably off. I always make sure the gps is connected before I start too. I've driven the route and it's still wrong. Any suggestions? I swing my arms when I walk too.

Good to see you around @chicks_rule.

Results when it comes to steps and distance will never  be the same for two people even if they have the same stride length because of moving/walking patterns or other minor factors that will make it never be the same. However, if you notice that your information is way off, you can try to restart your tracker by pressing and holding the left and lower right buttons for 10-15 seconds until it turns off and comes back on. Try it out after that and see if that makes any difference.

Thank you for the reply. The Blaze is not accurate. I use my Fitbit one and map my walk app and they are very close. The Blaze and map my walk are off by almost 1/2 on miles and step count. I've restarted it 3 times since I've owned it(April). I've also tried comparing the dsitance with just daily tracking and using the exercise feature and they are still both way off. I make sure gps signal is strong before I walk as well. This is very disappointing and I'm considering returning it.

accuracy and steps are an ONGOING PROBLEM that many people have noticed, it's not just you @chicks_rule.  Fitbit has acknowledged this as far as I know, but has not fixed it.

I am having the same issue and I said the same thing in another post...A mile is a mile regardless of stride or the amount os steps it takes you to finish that mile. There is a half mile discrepancy in my Blaze and my husbands Blaze. I was wearing both.

@PhotoAngel, were both of your Blazes tethered to the GPS of a smart phone at the time?  If the weren't then the distance is based upon the stride length you entered into your profile.

I did not have either phone with me. His stride is on automatic? Mine is manually entered.

Even when he walked beside me, for each mile we walked he gaine .25 of a mile ahead of me. I was saying in another thread, that is a huge difference. I am walking 4 miles to his 5 miles and we are both going the same place, same exact distance. I am frustrated because I spent a lot of money on this tracker and he bought one because I was enjoying mine, even though I thought it was taking me WAAAY longer to walk 2 miles than usual. Literally, when I walked 5 miles, it was taking me almost 2 hours and I am not a slow walker.

The point you're missing is your stride and his are A) most likely different, and B) have a different setting inside of your profiles.  Even then, setting a stride length is a guesstimate at best and will never be terribly accurate; the only way to ensure accuracy is to carry your phones with you and link to their GPS services.

I just did 30 minutes of exercise on an old Nordic Track Achiever ski machine and on a Treadmill setting it told me at the end of it that in that 30 minutes I took over 4,700,000 steps! I guess I need to challenge Superman for a race. I never could run in the Olympics as they would never be convinced I am not on some new drug :-} The weird thing is that it looked like it reported correctly to the dashboard. One should never doubt technology - NOT!

Your stride is based on measurements that you did, your husband's tracker is still set up to his account and set to automatic.. Fitbit takes his age,, gender, and height to guess at his stride.

Let's say he walks 2.6 feet with every step., you walk 2.2 feet with every step.

Please remember without the phone the blaze takes the steps and multiplies it by stride.

You walk 100 steps.

Your tracker reports 100 times 2.2 equals 220 feet.

Your husband's tracker reports 100 times 2.6 equals 260 feet.

The more important question would be, where the steps counted with each tracker close and correct?

As a follow up, I am getting a new fit bit. It's still not working. I ran a 5k Saturday only recorded 3k steps and barely 2 miles. Drove a golf cart for 3 hours and said I waked 9k steps 😳 Glad I'm able to get it replaced.

Thanks for getting back @chicks_rule. I'm happy to hear that you're getting your tracker replaced. I'm pretty confident that your new tracker will not give you any problem at all.

Let me know if anything comes up.

I've noticed that mine does not always give a minute by minute accurate update, but today I walked a route I had mapped out with point to point lines in Google Earth for an exact distance around every curve. I had my phone in my back pocket and I started the "Walk" in the "Exercise" menu as soon as I walked out the door ...

The watch measured 2.0miles about 4 feet short of where I calculated it on Google Earth. Later on when I looked at the map on my Dashboard ... it even showed which side of the road I was on. lol.

So I don't know what the answer is but I gotta say that it's not the Blaze in general. Other than the haphazard way in which it syncs who-the-heck-knows-when-but-definitely-not-when-I-try-to-force-it-to, I've found it to very impressivly accurate.

The only innacuracy I'm having problems with is lawn mowing with a riding mower. It IS exercise, especially with my hilly twisty turny 2 acres ... but I think the Blaze still gives me more credit than I deserve.

I have been having the same problem. Distances that I tracked with my old Charge HR matched the stride length shown in my profile. My new Blaze is reporting step counts that are similar to what the Charge recorded on the same route, but miles are off by a substantial margin.

I'm about 5'6" and generally cover a mile in around 2300 steps; the other day I had over 14,000 steps and still had not reached 5 miles. Right now I have 14,623 steps and 5.87 miles, which is about 2400 steps per mile, and closer to what I would expect than some recent days which have been close to 2600 steps per mile. The stride length calculated from my height coes to 2340 steps per mile which is pretty close to what I've been getting with the Charge.
