Hi, @Fortune88 and @NikkiMcComas, this can happen for a number of reasons. Basically your Fitbits did not "see" midnight and therefore did not get the usual signal to reset.
The most common cause of this is travelling (changing timezones) so the time "jumps over" midnight. Another common cause is if you perform an update around midnight. The Fitbit cannot receive the signal to reset while it is updating.
Unfortunately it very iccasionally happens for no obvious reason, which I know can be very frustrating.
When this happens you should check your timezone and make sure it is correct. You can find this under Account --> settings --> advanced settings. If it is incorrect update it and be sure to sync. It is also a good idea to perform a restart to flush out any background activities that may be causing your device to behave unexpectedly.
Unfortunately none of these "fixes" will reset your steps for the day, but hopefully should ensure that it does not happen again tomorrow. The only real fix is to wait for the next midnight when everything should be back to normal.

It's great to welcome you @NikkiMcComas, @Fortune88 and @Julia_G thanks for stopping by.
If your trackers didn't reset at midnight, I recommend restarting them to avoid this to happen again. About the extra information, you can negate it by manually logging the activity "Driving" by doing the following from your Fitbit app:
1. Tap the "+" icon
2. Tap Track Exercise
3. Enter your information
4. Tap Log It
5. Sync
I hope this helps, let me know the outcome.

@AlejandraFitbit, logging driving does not work to negate steps if the issue is the tracker didn't reset, because there is no particular time period to log drving.
The only way to do this is to log driving for ALL of the first day and ALL of the second day and then manually add the steps in for BOTH -- which actually probably makes everything worse if you are in a challenge, etc.

I had the same issue where yesterday I got 20,000 steps and when I woke up this morning it showed that I had 20,000 steps when I woke up (obviously wrong). I called in to fitbit via phone and and they suggested the "driving" adjustment you mentioned and that does not work because its steps from the previous day. How is it possible that fitbit has no way to reset your steps for the day when this happens? It seems like a serious glitch in the software. I've only had my fitbit for a week and it's already happened, and as the last person mentioned it messes up your challenges with friends, etc. which is the reason (challenging friends) why I went with fitbit! In my case I turn it off at night as I do not sleep wearing it, but the fitbit rep on the phone said that should not be an issue because when it syncs with your phone it will auto correct...guess not. Definitely a major fault to the fitbit and would hope that fitbit would spend some $ and time trying to sort this glitch out...thanks...

Currently have this issue. It's happened to me twice in the space of 2 days. Not only this, my fully charged Blaze wouldn't switch on this morning. This annoyed me as I not only took the dog a walk before work, but I also cycled as well. These are 2 activities I use the Blaze to record but could not as it wasn't working.
I've only had my Blaze since January and never had any problems with it until now. Hopefully get some answers from someone at Customer Support as I have emailed them...

@jjthink , no a restart will definitely not fix this issue. I am afraid that there isn’t a fix, but is unlikely to happen again.
The most usual reason for this happening is if your Fitbit ran out of battery completely yesterday, you charged it overnight or in the morning, and you did not sync it before using it. If your Fitbit runs out of battery, and you recharge it, it will just pick up exactly where it left off. Until you sync it, it won’t reflect the current time and day. (Think of it as an old fashioned clock - if you forget to wind it, you have to update the time when you restart it.)
Could that be what happened in your case?
Less usual reason for this happening is if you were travelling and changed time zones. Your Fitbit needs to “see” midnight (i.e. the clock in Fitbit needs to reach midnight) in order to get the signal to reset to zero for the new day. So, for example if you arrived in a new time zone at 10pm, synced your Fitbit to the new timezone (which was, for the sake of example, 4 hours later) your Fitbit will now show 2am. However, because it “jumped over” midnight, the steps won’t be reset, and your steps and other stats will be carried over to the new day.
Even less commonly is if you happened to perform an update to your device around midnight. The Fitbit will not “see” midnight when it is updating.
Because these are all fairly unusual circumstances, even though you cannot fix it for this particular instance, you can rest assured that it is unlikely to happen again. If this happened because of the battery dying and recharging, you just need to remember to sync before using your Fitbit again in order to get it on the right date and time.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Julia, very much, for taking the time to write. So kind of you. The screen began flashing wildly yesterday and it wore itself out, battery died. So it may be that it didn't sync before getting charged back up or seemingly afterward either. On the computer and phone now, it shows correct day but still yesterday's steps. That's okay - like you said, it probably wouldn't happen again tonight.
BUT, and this is the larger problem, it's also not adding to yesterday's steps (according to my desktop computer and my phone) so it seems like there is no communication happening.
The other remaining issue and it would also seem to be a big one, is that the battery icon is stuck on the screen of the fitbit. Nothing seems to shake it loose.
I tried uninstall and reinstall of app, tried a restart of the fitbit several times (with pressing the button 3 times with that little vibration after each), tried holding that button for 10-12 seconds, tried cleaning the contacts. .
Nothing. I am out of ideas!

Hi, @jjthink, you are very welcome! It sounds like yesterday’s steps being counted today is caused by no sync.
As for your other issues, the first troubleshooting step is always to give your Fitbit a restart. You mention that you held the button down for 10-15 seconds. However, now that you have confirmed in another post that you have an Alta HR, the restart procedure is different.
As with other trackers the Fitbit needs to be plugged in, as if to charge, even if it does not seem to be charging. When it has been plugged in for 1-2 hours, try the restart. For the Alta the procedure is to press the button 3 times within 5 seconds. You must pause briefly between each press. You should see the Fitbit logo and feel a slight vibration to confirm the restart. If it doesn’t restart, try it a couple more times...
Hopefully that will get things working again, but the Alta HR is now an older tracker, so if that doesn’t help, it may be coming to the end of its useful life.

Apologies @jjthink , I though I had read on one of your other posts that you had tried holding the button for 10-15 seconds, which won’t work with Alta HR, but you confirm here that you have tried the 3 presses within 5 secs.
I would suggest trying it a couple more times, but if it still doesn’t work it might be time to get in touch with Fitbit Customer Support on contact.fitbit.com

Hi Julia. Thanks. I had tried many restarts with the button pushed 3 times in 5 seconds. Got those vibrations after each push. I saw a post about also trying the 10-12 seconds so did that for good measure! But no luck any which way.
Sounding like the thing might be done for, unfortunately....since it won't add steps today and the battery icon WAS stuck on the screen for hours. I say "WAS" because now it just started flashing through all the screens maniaclly like it started doing yesterday ..it's going to wear itself out again and then battery will go dead again.

@jjthink , well once the battery dies completely again you might just try two hours charge and then the restart one more time.
After that, time to get in touch with Fitbit Customer Support. I think they are often willing to give return customers a discount on an updated tracker (also there may be a July 4 sale - they often run them over holidays).
Basically the Inspire HR is the update on the Alta HR. I would say it is a much nicer tracker in lots of ways - much more comfortable for me to wear. I really love mine and can recommend it, though it has a few of the same faults (hard to read in bright sunshine is the main one, but also does seem to need to be restarted pretty often to keep functioning well).

Thanks again Julia 🙂
They think it's dead so it looks like I'll have to get a new device...
Really appreciate all of your time!
