Steps to no calculate when on treadmill

When walking on treadmill, all steps do not calculate on my FitBit. I sometimes hold on to the handles on the treadmill. Is this why steps do not calculate?

Thats correct, holding on prevents your arm from mocing naturally, not to mention the whole body.
