Steps vs calories

Hi all.
I have just got my Fitbit blaze and noticed the steps count when I'm not walking. I have read a few of your logs and see this can be down to my general movement so my question is - does the amount of steps recorded effect my amount of calories burned? Does it think I have burnt more calories because it thinks I have walked more steps than I have??
Thanks

Step count is a main contributor in the calculation of calories so, yes, you will be getting some extra calories as a result of these spurious steps.

I wouldn't expect it to be a major factor though on your daily total and it will be consistent so if you focus on trends more than detail then it shouldn't be a problem

This article discusses it in more detail and explains what we can do to minimise it:
