Stride length for hiking

Hi FitBit,

my my dad and I hike very regularly. We love our Fitbit blazes, however, When we hike over rough terrain our stride length goes wayyy down (from like 27-30 range to 18-20) meaning the amount of steps we Take while stepping over and around rocks, etc makes the Fitbit assume we are going more miles than we really are. This is aggravating when you are on an 8 mile trail wanting to know about how far you are to the next trailhead, but your Fitbit reads 12 miles already :/.  If there was a way to set unique stride lengths for other exercises supported by the watch and app that would make it much more accurate for us.  Adjusting the stride length for the hiking exercise would make it possible for us to be able to track how many miles we actually hike more accurately.  Please consider making this update.

That's a neat idea. You may want to consider adding it as a feature request at https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/idb-p/features

I'm also a keen hiker so understand the issue. What I did when I started out with fitbit is I did a 10 mile hike wearing a fitbit and carrying a GPS and calculated my average stride when hiking. Having set this in my profile I did another 10 mile hike on a different route to check.

I am now confident that my hiking miles are correct but accept that my general, day-to-day, steps are under-reporting but I find this better than having my hiking mis-reported.
