Stride length is off

I have been having a problem with the Blaze since I switched out from the Charge HR. I narrowed it down to stride length miscalculation.

I have 20 or so step counts/stride-lengths for 400m measured at a track. That gives me an average 79.9cm stride as I walk. This was constant on the Charge HR with no variation when I logged a walk in Log>Activities.

Now I get the Blaze. It constantly undercounts steps if the total distance remains contstant when I enter the data in Log>Activities. By calculation it drops my stride to 63.78cm.

I have always had auto recognize on. Reading other posts it says that this is the culprit. I turned it off but I will have to check it tomorrow with a walk.

Under Settings>Personal Info>Body Info the stride length was input when I first calculated it i.e. 79.9cm. My stride was obtained by walking a measured 400m noting the step count for each walk then taking an average over 15 recordered trials. This has been used for every band I have had (Flex, Force, Charge, Charge HR).

Many of my longer 2.5, 5 and 10k walks are recorded with the GPS on my iPhone and/or a Garmin hand held GPS.

@Twitchy You are in luck! The new Fitbit iOS App version that was released this morning, version 2.22, gives Blaze users the option set their stride automatically using GPS data.

First I'd recommend making sure that your App version is up to date. Click here to be redirected to the iOS App Store.

Next, you can access these settings by: clicking the account button in the bottom right-hand corner > click 'Adanced Settings' > click 'Stride Length' at the bottom > and toggle 'Set Automatically' on.

Hope this helps!

I noticed that yesterday evening when the Blaze finally updated and was about to post that I think that may have been the issue.

I turned that off so it should default to my measured stride length.

I have checked and checked and checked and the stride length remains varable.

Again, I have my actual stride length measured over 400 meters at the middle school track. It is a modern new 400 meter track. I then took all the measurements I made (some more, some less) and averaged them to get the stride of 79.9cm that I have entered in settings (Main Program Settings on computer).

If the switch on the phone app (App>Account>Advanced Settings>Stride Length>Set Automatically) is set to off whether a gps is used or not the stride whould use 79.9cm/step (stride) to measure the distance. Right now it does not. It remains variable.

steps x stride = distance or distance/stride = steps

Either of these calculations should remain constant. When I use the Blaze with the (App>Account>Advanced Settings>Stride Length>Set Automatically) turned off. The Blaze remains variable.
