Enabling the notifacation does help. It also would be helpful to know which phone it is, since that is half or more of the problem.

If you do, I recommend following @MarreFitbit's instructions in the My tracker isn't receiving notifications (Android Fitbit app) and @SantiR's instructions in the Not receiving notifications on your iOS device?.
