Why is it necessary to have location services on just to use the Fitbit? I've never had any issues using my Fitbit on my iPhone 6, but now that I have switched over to an Android, I HAVE to have it on in order to use my Blaze to for things that bluetooth would've done on the iPhone. I feel at this point I have wasted my money on an item that I cannot use based on what is convenient for me. Just for me to get messages, phone calls, etc. I now have to keep my Location Services on and burn through my battery? I do not need the GPS to be on when I am walking around at work or driving to the store. This issue needs to be resolved through Fitbit and Android together. I however, have not passed up the thought that the issue could be resolved by updating the app for Android and fixing the permissions in the app itself. For those that like using the location services all day, I'm more than happy for you. As for me it's a nuisance that BT and internet are not enough and I have to constantly be reminded that I cannot sync my Blaze without location services being on.

First you don't need GPS on for location services to be on.. Scroll down to bring up the status bar, hold your finger down for a few seconds on the location. Change the services to power saving, this uses cellular and WiFi to estamate your position.. You can keep cellular and WiFi off, android will still use their recievers.

Now as to why, you will need to, ask Android that question.. Marshmellow needs location services on to so the MAC address of the device connected to Bluetooth can be reported. Fitbit uses the Mac address to identify the tracker so it can look up the account it belongs too.

Location services are only needed for syncing, notifications and music control will still work.

BTW whether you have this turned on or not, both Google and your phone company still know the phones location.

Now if Android decides to change it back to what it was with Lollipop then none of this will be necasary.

Also having GPS turned won't affect the Battery life until an app users it. Location services can get your location without gps.
