Use GPS without internet connection on phone

I just got a new Blaze and love it so far. I am apparently old fashioned in that I don't have a data plan on my phone, and don't have much of a GPS need since I map out my run distances before I leave. However, the Blaze's GPS feature does sound nifty and I'd like to try it out if possible.

Is it possible to use it just via bluetooth with my phone, and no internet connection? Or is an internet connection required?

The GPS is strickly betwen the phone and the Blaze, i doing no Internet required.  Stone day they need to be connected to the internet to start up then they can shoshone it.
