What do you suppose is happening with my Blaze hrm?

I recently joined a gym and so I've been doing a lot of walking/jogging on a treadmill.   Because some of the programmed functions of the treadmills require use of the treadmill's heart rate monitor, I need to place my hands on the bars in front of me periodically.  In fact, sometimes when the speed is high enough I need to use the bars just to hold on.  To get to the point, I've figured out that I miss a lot of steps if I don't put my Blaze in my pocket when my arms aren't swinging.  No big deal.   However...I have noticed something.  When I have the app open, my Blaze appears to be picking up a heart rate, even though I am not wearing it.   See below for a shot I took during my workout.  I think the number is high.  The treadmill's hrm was measuring something like 145 or so at the time I think.

Here's how my heart rate graph from my dashboard looks for the day.  You can see where the workout is around 7:00 pm, even though the workout did not register as an automatically tracked activity, there appears to be some heart rate data for the entire time I wasn't wearing my Blaze.

 What on earth is happening?

First guess is that HRM is locking onto your walking/running pace

@_matthew Your screenshot shows approximately 150bpm when the Blaze is in your pocket and in exercise mode. In this mode the Blaze is going to search for a heartbeat. If it can't find your heartbeat it will look for the next strongest signal, which is likely your stepping.

I usually walk on treadmill very fast, around 4.5mph. At that speed I get about 9000-10,000 steps in an hour. Lets use 9000 steps over 60 minutes. That works out to 9000/60 = 150 steps per minute (spm).

So a fast treadmill walk for me is 150spm, which happens to be about the same 150bpm you are seeing on Blaze while its in your pocket.

Hope that more detailed explanation helps.
