I have had a Fitbit One, a Charge HR, and now a Blaze. The One was used with both iPhone and Android, and the last two with Android only.
Honestly, my last Fitbit that synced quickly and stayed synced in real time was the One. I could walk and watch the steps on my phone. Here I sit with a Blaze, and it has not successfully synced for 23 hours. This is typical.
As it is also probably time for a new phone, I would be interested to know if the iPhone iOS platform syncs more quickly and reliably than Android. I can't believe that people buy ever more expensive Fitbit that don't sync, but that's exactly what I have done, so I guess I should.

Hey @rob42, good to see you around!
If your tracker isn't syncing with your phone, I recommend taking a look at the Having trouble syncing? post and follow the instructions provided there. About your syncing inquiry, please check our list of compatible mobile devices and see if the phone that you will buy is compatible.
Let me know if you need anything else.
