elliptical distance way off on blaze vs. hr.

i recently changed to the blaze from a hr.  when doing the elliptical, the hr was very accurate on the distance in comparison to the ellipitcal machine.  the blaze is way off on the miles.  the machine measures 3.5 mile for a 50 minute workout while the blaze says i did 2/10 of a mile.  this was not a problem with the hr, what is wrong with the blaze?  is there a setting i can change?  or is this a problem that fitbit needs to fix on the blaze.

Welcome to the Community @sophieporter. If your tracker is not being accurate with your miles, I recommend Restarting your Blaze and update your Stride Length. Test the tracker and if the results still the same feel free to contact our Support Team.

Let's first look at the elliptical and what the machine is recording as miles.
The distance repprted is looking at the times the wheel turns around. Now between your feet and the wheel are gears, and the wheel keeps turning when the feet have stop moving. This would be like coating on a bicycle, your moving but not pedaling.

As @AlejandraFitbit has pointed out the stride would need to be calibrated for the elliptical, but any time the wheel turns when the feet are not, will cause you to lose distance.

Your tracker however is looking at the heart rate, and the intensity of the workout, to calculate the calories burn.

@Rich_Laue not following you, @sophieporter reports that Charge HR recorded distance that closely matched elliptical machine, while Blaze reports 0.2 miles versus 3.5 miles on elliptical. Nothing in your explanation accounts for the fact that Fitbit has two very similar trackers, Charge HR and Blaze, and one records 3.5 miles on elliptical and the other reocrds 0.2 miles.

My hr never worked properly. It always recorded half the miles that I would do. Which I understand why because your arm is only counting the arm your Fitbit is on. I just got the blaze and was hoping that they would have found a solution for this problem. Is there a way to add miles to it? I like to keep an accurate count on what I do everyday and this frustrates me to death. Especially during a challenge.

It's great to see you around @Rich_Laue@bbarrera thanks for the tips provided and @swan6893 welcome to the Community! If your Blaze are not being accurate, I recommend checking This Thread where @EmersonFitbit is providing good points regarding the inaccuracy while doing exercise in a treadmill.
