heart rate calorie burn vs total calorie burn

Maybe a dumb question but the heart rate calorie burn far less than the dashboard says my total burn is. Is the heart rate calories burned only counting the calories when my heart rate gets into the "fat burn zone"? It seemed to me since it is tracking my heart rate all day that this would be my total calories burned based on HR but it doesn't seem to match up.

@nelsej22 not sure exactly what you are asking/looking at to get this information. Can you provide a screen shot?

It's on the screen that you can see you graph of the heart rate. It tells you how many minutes you were in each zone and the calories burned. It won't let me me post a pic from my phone so I'm not sure how to show you. But today my heart rate won't even graph. Kind of frustrated with the Blaze.

@nelsej22 you talking about these graphs?

HR Zone + Calorie Burn.jpg

Calories Burned Exercise.jpg

Doing the math on my graphs, 17 calories/min average burn multiplied by a 48 minute workout comes out to the same total calorie burn Fitbit showed at the top of the exercise report.

Hmmm my graph doesn't look like that. I'll have to see if I can go on my computer to get a pic.

Ohhh my graphs look like that when I use the Web browser. It isn't showing up at all in the app. I see it now. This makes more sense.

This is what I mean... these calories are only once I get to the fat burn zone??Screenshot_2016-03-28-19-30-00.png

The graph on the top is a record of your day. The 4 hours 29 minutes are the time spent at Fat Burn or above and the 1194 are the calories burnt during this time, not the days total, which can be read from the dashboard.

@nelsej22 what @Rich_Laue said. The mobile apps mirror the website (Dashboard) pretty closely. Your first screen shot is similar to going to your dashboard and changing your step tile to "HR" (it shows a plot of your HR throughout the day) and the 2nd one is the breakdown of your HR during your exercise. Hope this answered your question.  If you have any additional questions feel free to ask.

@SunsetRunner I understand the two mimic very close.

However I think @nelsej22 was asking why on the HR page the calorie count display is only showing the time in the Fat Burn Zone. This is probably because it is displayed under the Car Burn statistics. It had been noticed on the heart page the calories burnt was less than the days calorie count.

From the graph it appears the answer is "because your HR never entered Cardio or Peak zones."

@nelsej22 you spent 4 hours and 29 minutes in "exercise zones" and all of that happened to be in Fat Burn zone - because HR never went high enough to enter Cardio or Peak zone. Basic explanation here:
